What it is

Phosphoric acid (orthophosphoric acid, H₃PO₄) is a colourless, odourless, syrupy liquid that dissolves completely in water. It is a key base chemical of the phosphorus industry. It is the starting point for phosphate fertilizers, food-grade phosphates and many industrial treatments.

Grades

• Technical grade. Covered by Vietnamese national standard TCVN 6618:2000 (phosphoric acid for food and for technical purposes). Used in industry.
• Food grade. Covered by TCVN 8570:2010 (food additives: phosphoric acid), which replaced the food part of TCVN 6618:2000. Active content not less than 75 %. Food additive number INS 338.

Packing and shipping

Packing is agreed per contract: IBC tanks, ISO tank containers or drums. Phosphoric acid is corrosive, so every shipment is packed, labelled and documented as dangerous goods. We arrange the move from Lào Cai to the port of loading.

1. What is phosphoric acid used for?

   Mostly to make phosphate fertilizers such as MAP and DAP. Food-grade acid is also an acidity regulator (INS 338), and technical-grade acid is used for metal treatment, cleaning and water treatment.

2. What is the difference between technical and food grade phosphoric acid?

   In Vietnam, technical grade is covered by TCVN 6618:2000 and food grade by TCVN 8570:2010. Food grade has tighter limits on impurities and a minimum active content of 75 %.
